Morocco once again fails to prevent SADR from participating in AU-ECA conference

wald-salek-575x250Dakar (Senegal), 27 March 2017 (SPS) – Saharawi Foreign Ministers Mohamed Salem Ould Salek said Morocco has once again failed to prevent the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) from taking part in the African Union-United Nations partnership conference, that took place in Dakar.

The Head of the Saharawi diplomacy told reporters after the postponement of Dakar’s meeting that “Morocco has once again failed to prevent the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic from taking part (in an international conference as an AU member) after its failure in Malabo Summit.”

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) confirmed Sunday 26th March the postponement of the Joint Annual Meetings of the AU Specialized Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration and the ECA’s Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development that was planed to be held in Dakar from 23rd to 28 March.

The ECA has taken the decision to postpone the meeting after it failed to convince the Moroccan delegation to stop hindering the works. Morocco kept obstructing the discussions and refused to respect the procedural rules of the meeting.

Morocco couldn’t achieve its goal of hindering the participation of the Saharawi Republic since it is a full member state of the AU, while in the ECA the Polisario Front, as again confirmed by the ECA legal department, is the only legitimate representative of the Saharawi people as clearly stated in the UNGA resolution 34/39 of 1979, and therefore is entitled to attend the meetings as an Associate Member of the ECA.
